Treatment should be adapted to the individual, not the other way around. Period.
My desire in providing counseling services is to ask enough questions and gather enough information to catch me up to speed with where you are in life. As I do that, my training and expertise will help as I join you in developing a treatment plan that will focus on creating change in the areas of life you think are most important.
I’ll bring my experiences, training, and background with me to our conversations – but I also need you to bring your experiences, understanding, and background with you as well. Together we’ll compare notes, come up with an approach we think can bring about the change you are seeking, and start that journey together.
Typically we schedule weekly appointments to get started, but we will start to space them out more as we go along in treatment. We’ll use a variety of interventions (traditional talk-therapy, “homework assignments”, EMDR, and other options we have available to us), and see what we can accomplish.
If I do my job well, there will come a time when we say good-bye… and I’ll only ever see you as we cross paths in our community (if at all!).
